Age-Adjusted Death Rate due to Hypertensive Heart Disease

Measurement Period: 2022
This indicator shows the age-adjusted death rate per 100,000 population due to hypertensive heart disease.

Why is this important?

Hypertensive heart disease refers to heart problems caused by high blood pressure, or hypertension, and includes coronary artery disease (also called coronary heart disease), heart failure, and enlargement of the heart. Hypertension causes the heart to work harder against the high pressure in blood vessels, straining the heart. Because there are often no symptoms, people who have high blood pressure may be unaware of it. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that one in three U.S. adults have high blood pressure, and only half of people with high blood pressure have their condition under control. Hypertension is associated with obesity, diabetes, high stress levels, high salt intake, high alcohol intake, and tobacco use.
